Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 11/9: Battle for the Bottom

CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

THE DAILY BLOVIATION

The interesting thing about being a Browns fan is that the seven stages of grief happen very quickly. These stages are "shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance". Or at least they're supposed to be.

The reaction to another Browns loss often follows these lines, but in a lot of cases when the Browns lose a game and look bad doing it, the stages are "acknowledgment, depression, anger, anger, and anger". And we've got a lot of upset people heading into today's game with the Jets. If the team loses, that situation is going to get even more intense.

Some Browns fans have a lot of a different state of mind - hope - as they take on New York. Basically, this is because the New Jets are a horrible team that somehow got much worse during the trade deadline as they dealt away CB Sauce Gardner, DT Quinnen Williams and NB Michael Carter in short order, a sure sign that the club is tanking for a quarterback in the 2026 draft. They must really like Fernando Mendoza and, after what he did in the last two minutes against Penn State, it's not hard to see why.

The Jets also turn over the ball a lot, and are likely dispirited after receiving a very clear "we're tanking" message.

The Browns, likewise, made a big change during the bye week - changing the play caller - and the team hopes he gets off to a great start. The media is filled with comments from fellow coaches about how brilliant Tommy Rees is in general. They're facing a defense that's been decapitated in the last week. Ced Tillman is back, and Jerry Jeudy is determined. We should finally see some positives out of the offense today.

If we don't, I have to head down to Ace Hardware and get a pitchfork. Like a good reverse psychology student, I predicted the Browns to lose and that this situation would get worse because losing to the pathetic Jets is the Brownsiest thing they could Browns. That, and they haven't won a road game in over a year.

In reality, I expect the Browns to win and for the situation to remain basically unchanged. A good offensive display will be dismissed by some as to be expected against such an opponent in chaos. A bad offensive display, and we're right back where we were, just even more convinced that the problems are unfixable without an off-season to reboot. The Jets are such a poor test that it will be challenging to accurately gauge whether the offense will improve once the Browns return to Cleveland to face the Ravens.

We'll do our best to ascertain if there's any real improvement in the game thread on the Insider Discussion board, and the Watercooler Game Thread will be its usual mix of insanity.

See you there.

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
