The Clarets came away from the London Stadium empty-handed despite producing a positive display in the capital.

“I think it’s a very unnecessary defeat, which makes it even worse,” Burnley’s told official YouTube channel.

“We know how strong this league is and maybe there will be games we walk off the pitch with our head held up high, but with the feeling the opposition was just better than us, like we had last week against Arsenal - where we did well, we fought for as long as we could but they were just a better side.

“But today you walk off the pitch with a feeling in your belly where you’re thinking: ‘we could beat them and we should have beaten them’, so that’s not a nice feeling.”

“It was really nice [to get the opener],” he added.

“Scoring to make it 1-0 away from home puts a lot of pressure on them and it was also a bit of a reward for how we played up until that point, because it had been a decent performance.

“It was a good goal as well. I don’t just mean my header, but also leading up to the header was good play from the team.

“That was an important moment in the game but unfortunately right now it’s worth nothing really.”
