NUFC players arrive at the Gtech Community Stadium
Newcastle United injury news: Joelinton was forced off the pitch with injury during Newcastle United’s clash with Brentford.
The Brazilian had gone down with injury on a couple of occasions before eventually being replaced by Jacob Ramsey in the 24th minute. Joelinton was one of ten players to keep their starting spots from the win over Athletic Club in midweek, with just Jacob Murphy coming into the starting XI in place of the injured Anthony Gordon.
Gordon had been suffering with a hip injury in the build-up to the game, one that forced him off during their outing in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Eddie Howe poured doubt on his availability when he spoke to the media on Friday, and revealed to Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s game that the winger ‘wasn’t close’ to featuring at the Gtech Community Stadium.
“He wasn't close in the end,” Howe told Sky Sports. “The scan revealed a very slight problem in his hip and it's a good opportunity for Harvey [Barnes] to come in.
“We have to deliver something different. That day [against West Ham] was painful for us. Hopefully, we have learnt a lot. Now we have to start picking up points.”

In Gordon’s absence, Harvey Barnes stepped up to be the main creator in chief in London on Sunday, twisting and turning the defenders to slot home past Coaimhin Kelleher to open the scoring. In an underwhelming general team performance in the first 45 minutes, Barnes was the bright spark on the left wing.
Newcastle United suffer fresh injury blow
Moments before Barnes had put his side into the lead, the Magpies were dealt a blow when Joelinton hobbled off the pitch. Initially, the former Hoffenheim man had received treatment on a leg injury, but was deemed fit enough to carry on.
However, he later again went down in pain and was taken off by Howe. Ramsey, his replacement, looked solid after coming onto the pitch but endured a couple of hairy moments at the beginning of the second period.
Newcastle United’s lead didn’t last too long into the second half as Kevin Schade nodded past Nick Pope to eventually make one of Brentford’s set-pieces pay dividends. Michael Kayode’s long throw was headed by Sven Botman but the Dutchman could do nothing but put the ball on a plate for Schade who nodded into a net guarded solely by Dan Burn.
Brentford had, as expected, used set-pieces to try and gain an advantage over their visitors and looked dangerous from them throughout the game.
