The Washington Commanders desperately needed to bolster their pass rush in the offseason. They failed to address that issue in the NFL Draft, and they couldn’t keep Dante Fowler Jr. or sign any big-name player.
That’s why they chose to roll the dice on one of the prime headhunters of all time. Von Miller was a free agent, and while his best years were clearly in the rearview mirror, he was probably their best bet at that point in the offseason.
Nine weeks have gone by, and the Denver Broncos legend has made himself at home in the nation’s capital. That’s why he’s not thinking about retirement right now. When asked about that, he admitted that he wants to run it back with this team:
“Hopefully I can still be here with the Washington Commanders. If I’m able to be in an environment like this with the coaching staff, like DQ. I can definitely play next year,” Miller said, via Nicki Jhabvala.
Von Miller said on his new podcast "Free Range" that he has no plans to retire after this season.

Of course, expecting Von Miller to be the same player today as he was years ago would be nothing more than wishful thinking. It’s simply not realistic.
The Commanders would still need to address their need for a prime pass rusher and figure out a way to get someone else for that unit, even if they were to bring Miller back. That being said, it certainly won’t hurt to keep him there.
We’re talking about one of the greatest defenders of all time. He could be a mentor for younger players or be there in some obvious pass situations to put some pressure on the signal-caller.
That being said, this team might want to go in a different direction. They fell back to Earth this season, and they might want to get younger, not older, for next year.
