Liverpool team vs Man City confirmed as Arne Slot makes Florian Wirtz decision

Arne Slot has named an unchanged Liverpool side against Manchester City, sticking with the same XI that started the midweek victory over Real Madrid.

Slot has reverted back to a side reminiscent of last season in recent weeks, with Andy Robertson returning at left-back, along with the tried-and-trusted midfield three of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Dutchman has stuck with that winning formula at the Etihad and chose to start Florian Wirtz once again. The ex-Bayer Leverkusen man performed excellently against Real and has been named ahead of Cody Gakpo for the meeting between the sides that have shared the last eight Premier League titles between them.

Alexander Isak is back on the bench for the first Premier League match since the defeat against Manchester United. He is joined by Gakpo and Milos Kerkez in the Reds' strongest substitute line-up for several weeks.

Alisson, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni are the only players currently missing for Slot's side.

The Liverpool head coach confirmed in Friday's press conference that Alisson will be back after the international break, but in the meantime Giorgi Mamardashvili continues in nets against City.

Conor Bradley, fresh from his heroics against Real, starts again at right-back, and is joined by Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Robertson as part of the back four.

The midfield trio of Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Szoboszlia continues, with the latter scoring in last season's 2-0 win at the Etihad.

As did Mohamed Salah, who will be looking to continue his fine form on Sunday. Wirtz will line up on the left flank but with habitually drift inside.

Despite Isak's return to the squad, Hugo Ekitike starts in the no.9 role and will hope to score his first league goal since the win over Everton on September 20.

As for City, Pep Guardiola has named the same team that started in the Premier League win over Bournemouth last week. That means an attacking line-up with Phil Foden in a no.10 role behind Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku.

Liverpool starting XI: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Ekitike, Wirtz.

Substitutes: Woodman, Gomez, Kerkez, Endo, Jones, Chiesa, Isak, Gakpo Ngumoha.
