The Green Bay Packers just lost one of their best players. Tight end Tucker Kraft won’t be able to return this season after suffering a season-ending ACL injury.
He was in the midst of a breakout season. And while he still has another year left in his contract, they might want to start planning ahead for the future.
With that in mind, Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting staff tied them to several prospects at the position. In their latest column, they have him going after one of Michael Trigg (Baylor), Eli Raridon (Notre Dame), or Marlin Klein (Michigan):
“Adding a tight end in the draft was discussed recently for the Packers, and the position might be moving up the team’s list of priorities after Tucker Kraft tore an ACL last weekend. Considering Kraft and Luke Musgrave will be in contract years next season, Green Bay would be wise to at least keep tabs on someone like the Baylor product,” per B/R NFL Draft Scouting Department.
The Packers reportedly tried to replace Kraft at the trade deadline, but to no avail. They reportedly reached out to the Cleveland Browns to try to get their hands on David Njoku, but the Browns didn’t feel like trading the veteran star.
They wound up settling with some minor moves instead. That means they will either have to hope that his backup, Luke Musgrave, will be able to make up for his production or just sling the football all over the field and hope that the wide receivers can pick up the slack.
Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career, but plenty of that had to do with Kraft. He was his preferred target in crucial situations, the end zone, and down the middle of the field.
The Packers now need to explore all of their options. And, unfortunately, that might mean bracing themselves for the post-Tucker Kraft era.
