Nottingham Forest turned around a one-goal deficit to claim three important Premier League points against Leeds United at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon.
After falling behind to Lukas Nmecha’s goal, Ibrahim Sangaré’s first goal for the club brought the Reds level within minutes before Morgan Gibbs-White headed in substitute Omari Hutchinson’s cross to secure the win for Sean Dyche’s side. Elliot Anderson’s first goal of the season from the penalty spot in the final moments rounded off the win for the Reds.
The win extends Forest’s unbeaten run to three games in all competitions and represents their first win in the league since August.
Forest started with an early opportunity as Gibbs-White forced Lucas Perri into a low save inside the opening two minutes.
The Reds continued to press and saw plenty of the ball and came within inches of an opener when Igor Jesus’ deflected effort forced Perri into a reflex save on his goal line.
The away side opened the scoring with their first attack as Nmecha drilled the ball beyond Matz Sels in front of the Trent End.
Barely two minutes later, however, Forest were deservedly level once more.
Dan Ndoye’s cross was palmed into Sangaré’s path, and the midfielder did the rest, placing the ball with precision into the Leeds net.
Ndoye had chances of his own over the next few minutes, first firing wide from distance before Perri held onto an effort from the left side of the Leeds box.
Forest pushed and probed for the remainder of the first half but were unable to net a second before the half-time whistle.
Half-time: Forest 1-1 Leeds United
I. Jesus saw an effort deflected behind for a corner in the opening seconds of the second period as the Reds started the second period in the same fashion as they finished the first.
With the scoreline still level and the final 20 minutes approaching, a Forest change on the hour mark paid dividends.
Omari Hutchinson – who replaced Nicolás Domínguez – sent in a delightful cross for Gibbs-White to flick the ball beyond Perri and turn the scoreline around.
With 12 minutes remaining, Sels produced a fine one-handed stop to deny Leeds substitute Daniel James from distance before Jayden Bogle fired wide from Gabriel Gudmundsson’s whipped ball back into the Forest box.
Anderson rounded off the scoring in the final minute of the 90 when, after Hutchinson was brought down in the box by Jack Harrison, the Forest maestro stepped up to send Perri the wrong way.
The international break gives the Reds a two-week break before their next action, which comes against Liverpool at Anfield.
