Saints vs. Panthers: The matchup
The Saints have settled into their hopeful playoff spoiler role in the midst of a 1-8 start, turning to rookie quarterback Tyler Shough and a chance to season their second-round draft pick with 2026 in the franchise’s sights. Early results haven’t been kind to Shough, who has completed 57.1% of his passes for 304 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in three games (two starts).

The forward pass hasn’t been a feature item in Carolina’s 5-4 start, with quarterback Bryce Young managing games and running back Rico Dowdle leading the NFL’s fifth-best rushing attack. Dowdle ranks fourth in the league with his 735 yards and third with his 5.6 yards per carry while playing a magnified role for the team’s current run of four wins in five games.
