Lucas Perri played an integral role in Leeds’ opening goal away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Leeds fell to a 3-1 defeat away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, despite having taken the lead inside 14 minutes at the City Ground.

Once again, it was a day to forget for the Whites, who have now won just one of their last under Daniel Farke, with pressure building.

Perri, who has had a mixed start to life at Leeds, was at the heart of the clash, and one moment in the first half caught the attention of Andy Hinchcliffe.

Lukas Nmecha scored moments after incredible Lucas Perri save

Given the struggles Leeds had with Illan Meslier last season, Perri was brought in to rectify that, and very early into the clash with Forest, he showed why.

Igor Jesus, who led the line for the hosts, saw a goal-bound effort deflected at the last second, with Perri forced to demonstrate his reflexes, not once, but twice.

After making the initial save, Dame Ndoye was closing in on the rebound before the Brazilian reacted brilliantly to punch the ball to safety, with Hinchcliffe in awe of the double save.

Commentating via Sky Sports Premier League, Hinchcliffe said: “How on earth did he stop that from crossing the line? Oh, this is quite extraordinary. The first save is magnificent, but then how he gets up and makes the second save.

“There’s an offside shout in there, so it wouldn’t have counted anyway, but the goalkeeper does so well to make the first save, then get up and make the second.

“He didn’t know the flag was going to go up. Two incredible stops there from Perry.”

Quite literally seconds later, Leeds broke into the Forest half, with Nmecha firing an effort into the far bottom corner to give the Whites the lead.

Lucas Perri will bring more good than bad to Leeds

Perri sparked some concern at Leeds, but since returning from injury, he has barely put a foot wrong for the most part.

Perri stats vs Nottingham Forest

Three saves

0.76 Goals prevented

79% pass accuracy

44 touches

There have been times, like there were against Forest, where he can look shaky, but more often than not, Perri has done his job well.

He has a tendency to make big saves at big moments, and had it not been for his reaction to Jesus’ shot, Leeds would never have had the chance to take the lead initially.

After yet another defeat for the Whites, there are many concerns, though Perri is certainly far from being one of them.
