Leeds United result at Nottingham Forest was 'needed' says Sean Dyche as he demands more

Inside Elland Road: Are Leeds Utd physically able to compete in the Premier League?

Leeds United's 3-1 defeat at the City Ground handed Sean Dyche his first Premier League win as Nottingham Forest boss.

Sean Dyche said he needed the victory over Leeds United as much as anyone at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest snapped an almost three-month Premier League winless streak.

Ibrahim Sangaré, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson got on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win against a Leeds side who created 0.69 Expected Goals despite having more possession than the hosts. Lukas Nmecha's opener was cancelled out within two minutes as defensive errors compounded Leeds' lack of creativity.

Forest last won a league game on the opening day of the season. Recently-installed boss Dyche said it was needed. "I think everyone needs it," he said. "I need it as much as everyone else does, I'm the manager. You work to win games, that's what keeps you in business. It's hard to win games in the Premier League. The staff and players do lots of hard work. It's nice when it pays off, it's a collective thing, not just about me."

There have been signs of things turning around for the Reds despite their early season struggles. Under Dyche they now have wins in Europe and in the league, with draws against Manchester United and Sturm Graz too. But the victory over Leeds is undoubtedly the biggest boost they've enjoyed since the new manager came in. He wants to build on it now.

"Great feeling, that," he said. "When you've worked hard, everyone involved off the bench and you win, it's a great feeling. Now we're hungry for more. Alrightness gets you nothing, so we push for more."

The result leaves Leeds a point above the drop zone and just two ahead of Forest, who moved to nine points with victory.
