The New England Patriots are in a prime spot this season, sitting 7-2 and riding a six-game winning streak behind second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Maye has been the engine of New England’s offense, completing 74.1% of his passes for 2,285 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s athletic, accurate and a reason the Pats look like legitimate contenders.
Former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was effusive after watching film on Maye.

“I think he’s played outstanding,” Romo said, praising both Maye and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for balancing a physical run game with downfield shots. Romo called the pairing a “rare combination” and noted the benefits of a defensive-minded coach creating a culture that allows a young quarterback to thrive.

“I’m not saying this is Brady, but I am saying there’s merits to what Drake Maye is doing right now that are incredibly impressive for a young player,” he said. Romo highlighted Maye’s ability to “throw the ball effortlessly 40 yards downfield” and praised the offensive structure that helps him make explosive plays.
The game on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium pits the Patriots against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a first-place showdown. Maye is listed as healthy and will start; the game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET. New England faces some roster losses Rhamondre Stevenson is out while the Bucs remain short-handed with Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and Haason Reddick inactive.
