Everton’s Beto and Thierno Barry both branded ‘fighters’ by Fulham defender after 2-0 win

Everton returned to winning ways with a 2-0 Premier League victory over Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes was left disappointed on Monday night, as Everton drew 1-1 away at Sunderland.

The Toffees failed to kick on after taking a 1-0 lead, but were much better as Fulham travelled to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Idrissa Gueye’s first-half opener put Everton in front, before Michael Keane headed home number two.

This was a fine Everton performance and a brilliant response after a disappointing second half at Sunderland.

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey on Beto and Thierno Barry

Moyes kept the faith in Thierno Barry as his leading striker for Fulham’s visit.

Barry missed a golden chance against Sunderland, but showed enough for Moyes to keep him in the side.

Moyes accepts that Barry is still learning in the Premier League, but we saw encouraging signs from him against Fulham.

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey offered his thoughts on Barry and fellow Everton striker Beto after the final whistle, having faced both of them on Saturday.

Speaking to Sporty TV, Bassey noted that both Everton forwards are ‘fighters’, so he was ready for battle on Saturday.

Bassey is very strong himself, but feels that both Beto and Barry ‘make life difficult’ for defenders.

Bassey added that Fulham could have been more dynamic against Everton, but really need to improve defending from set pieces.

“This game, we knew it was going to be a fight,” said Bassey.

“Beto and Barry, they are fighters. They make life difficult for you.

“I just think we could have been a bit more dynamic, maybe, in the first half. We had control, and then we sort of lost control.

“We’ve just got to do better from set pieces. We’ve conceded 16 goals, 10 of them have been from personal errors or set pieces, so I think we’ve got to do a bit better,” he added.

Thierno Barry must take confidence from Everton display

Both Beto and Barry are huge, physically imposing strikers, so they will always pose a threat even if they don’t score.

The goals have been Everton’s biggest problem, though, as Beto and Barry have combined for just one Premier League goal this season.

Everton need more going forward, and Barry should at least feel some confidence after Saturday’s performance.

Barry had the ball in the net in the first half, but saw his effort ruled out for offside.

There were promising signs from the Frenchman, and with Moyes now seemingly allowing him to have a run in the team ahead of Beto, his confidence should be on the rise.
