Liverpool suffered a fifth Premier League defeat in six games with a disappointing loss to title contenders Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Erling Haaland and a deflected Nico Gonzalez strike put the home side ahead before half-time, with Jeremy Doku adding another in the second half to secure a 3-0 victory for Pep Guardiola's team.

Doku's strike was the pick of bunch, after turning Conor Bradley inside out all afternoon, as he curled the ball into the far corner of the net.

The result leaves Arne Slot's team languishing in eighth place, their lowest position under the Dutchman since his arrival in the summer of 2024.

Here are Daily Star Sport's player ratings from the clash...

Giorgi Mamardashvili, 7 - A bit unlucky to concede a penalty but saved Haaland's spot kick and made a good stop from Doku, while he had no chance with any of the goals, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Conor Bradley, 5 - Clearly instructed to press high, which gave him plenty to do, and he held his own against Doku in the first half before struggling significantly after that. He was booked and substituted.

Ibrahima Konate, 4 - Somewhat disorganised in the first half, responsible for the penalty and should have defended better against the opener. He improved slightly after the break but the damage was already done.

Virgil van Dijk, 6 - Tried to defend aggressively but couldn't do much about deflecting in the second goal and had an equaliser unfairly disallowed.

Andy Robertson, 5 - Failed to close down Nunes for the cross for the opening goal and was judged offside for what would have been the equaliser. He was substituted.

Ryan Gravenberch, 5 - The player seemed a bit rattled after conceding a few early free-kicks and didn't have much of an impact on the game.

Alexis Mac Allister, 5 - He took a while to find his footing and often made poor decisions with the ball. He was far from his best and received a booking.

Mohamed Salah, 5 - His effort can't be faulted. He forced some corners and had O'Reilly on edge, but found the second half more challenging.

He was frequently offside and missed a good opportunity.

Dominik Szoboszlai, 6 - He managed a couple of diagonal passes but was otherwise kept quiet in the early stages. He stepped up in the second half and was the only Liverpool player to show real fight.

Florian Wirtz, 5 - He worked hard in the first half and his dribbling skills helped move Liverpool up the field, but he became increasingly disheartened as the game went on. He was substituted.

Hugo Ekitike, 4 - He received little service throughout his time on the pitch and often made the wrong decision when he did get the ball. He was substituted.
