Malick Thiaw has been singled out following Newcastle United’s latest defeat to Brentford.
This was a must-win game for the Magpies given their shocking away form in the Premier League. What transpired was a loss that made their record even worse.
Newcastle United lost 3-1 to Brentford, with shocking performances all over the pitch from the players in dark blue. Even though Newcastle did not wear their cursed green shirt, they still played like a team that looked incapable of victory.
Dan Burn had a miserable afternoon, giving away a penalty and receiving a red card. He was not the only Toon player who let himself down at the Gtech Community Stadium, however, with the majority of Eddie Howe’s team falling desperately short of expectations.
But one player who does not fall into that category is Malick Thiaw.

Malick Thiaw praised despite woeful Newcastle United performance vs Brentford
The 24-year-old centre-back was easily Newcastle United’s best player against Brentford.
That was a view shared by pundit Kit Symons, who spoke glowingly about the German defender during BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra’s coverage of Sunday’s game.
“Malick Thiaw has been outstanding for Newcastle today and really doesn’t deserve to be on the losing side,” he said.

Alas, Thiaw’s heroics were all for nothing. Despite a strong performance up against an incredibly physical Brentford side, Thiaw was part of Newcastle United side that have now lost three in a row away from home in the Premier League.
What makes Malick Thiaw so unique at Newcastle United right now
There is no doubt that Thiaw is Newcastle United’s best signing this summer. He is the only new recruit that is performing at a consistently high level, with Eddie Howe’s side still getting to grips with how to utilise Nick Woltemade.
But Thiaw has slotted in seamlessly. He appears to be a bargain at £34million, taking to English football with absolute ease.
In fact, there is one thing that makes him unique to the entire Newcastle United squad. He is the only player who has consistency. Every week he is exceptional, and that continued to be the case against Brentford.
Unless the rest of his teammates get on his level and find their own consistency, this is going to be a very challenging season for Newcastle United.
