Arne Slot admits there was one thing he ‘liked’ about Liverpool’s performance despite loss to Man City

Liverpool suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad and were brushed aside with ease.

The Reds have had a bad end to a decent week, with their back-to-back wins now being overshadowed by a very disappointing loss.

Liverpool were not at the races and have handed Man City a big boost to their title hopes, with this result leaving Arne Slot’s side down in eighth, below Man United.

There are not too many positives to take at all for the performance, although Arne Slot admitted there was one thing he was really pleased about despite the result.

Arne Slot ‘liked’ that his players did not give up

Even though the game was only 2-0 at half time, it felt over given how dominant Man City were and how lacklustre the Reds were.

However, the second half saw a slight improvement to Liverpool’s game, although it was still not enough to find a breakthrough.

Slot was impressed, though, and liked the fact his players never gave up, with this something he wanted to mention in his post-match interview.

“But I liked, if there’s anything to like today, our second-half performance because teams that sometimes struggle, teams that go 3-0 down over here, they give up but that’s not what I saw,” he told Sky Sports.

Liverpool had a few chances but could not find a way past Gianluigi Donnarumma, with this match going down as a bad day at the office.

Arne Slot needs to change something

By no means has it got so bad that Slot’s job needs to be seriously questioned, but it could head that way if he is not careful.

Seven losses in their last 10 in all competitions is not something the reigning Premier League champions should be going through, however that is the reality for them right now.

The performance will be the biggest worry, though, as they hardly laid a glove on Man City, with the result more than fair.

The international break has come at a fairly good time, but with this the last one until March, Slot is under serious pressure to get things right.
