Oliver Glasner may need to replace Marc Guehi in the January transfer window
Despite the shock defeat at home to AEK Larnaca, The Eagles are still well in contention to qualify for the Conference League knockout rounds and could even be on course for another Wembley final if they can beat Arsenal in the last eight of the EFL Cup in December.
Meanwhile Oliver Glaser's side are on track to fulfill their perpetual destiny and finish 12th, though they have indicated they are ready to move on from Marc Guehi so they’ll need to find a centre-back back replacement while strengthening the rest of the side.
Palace pickpocket Premier League rivals and Europe’s best
Pascal Struijk - £29.5m from Leeds United - Kicking us off in style, Crystal Palace’s midfielders have been fantastic this season led by Adam Wharton, but Struijk would still prove a serious upgrade. The Belgian has been a revelation for Leeds this season though it’s also highly unrealistic The Whites would be willing to let him go even for double this fee given how integral he is to their Premier League survival hopes.
Sacha Boey - £4.1m from Bayern Munich - There would be no better sign of the increased stature of Crystal Palace than signing players from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain in January. Signed in the coming transfer window in a loan-to-buy deal, Boey was a star in age-group football but his career has stalled since he was signed by Bayern Munich almost two years ago. After playing 1,700 minutes in the first half of the 2023/24 top flight for Galatasaray, he’s played less than that in all competition since moving to Germany, so a career refresh is in order.
Aleksa Terzic - £16.25m RB Salzburg - A rogue call with Tyrick Mitchell continuing to perform fantastically for Crystal Palace on the left, at 26 years of age Terzic has never shown the potential to command a fee approaching £20m.
Leif Davis - loan from Ipswich Town - The 25-year-old left back played almost 3,000 Premier League minutes for The Tractor Boys last season and would be a much more sensible option as a rotation option for Mitchell.
Goncalo Ramos - loan from PSG - This would be wild. Ramos has a fantastic knack of scoring pivotal goals late on in games with almost half of his goals for PSG coming after the 75th minute.
He’s in the top 10% most prolific strikers in Europe’s top five leagues in the last year with 0.65 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes but whereas other forwards at the top of that list like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland played 4,000 club minutes last season and have already surpassed 1,000 this campaign, and Ramos only notched 1,812 and is on 700 minutes for 2025/26.
It’s still unlikely that the 24-year-old would move to Selhurst Park but if he did and produced his strike rate as a starter it would suit all parties and take the strain off Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Guehi new club revealed outside Premier League
Marc Guehi - £20m to Marseille - After almost 200 games and two trophies, Guehi’s career at Selhurst Park does indeed come to an end, but not with the England star joining another Premier League club.
Instead, he joins Roberto De Zerbi’s band of reprobates in Marseille. This move would come as a major shock to fans in England but given they’re a third of the way through the Ligue 1 season and still in touch with an unusually goal-shy Paris Saint-Germain, perhaps they see this as their opportunity to throw everything at a first league title since 2010.
Rio Cardines - £375,000 to Fulham - Cardines made his Eagles debut in the Conference League against Dynamo Kyiv but appears unlikely to have a straightforward path to the first team especially given the form of the bulletproof Mitchell.
Chadi Riad - loan to Sheffield United - The former Barcelona centre-back started Crystal Palace’s top flight home opener in the 2024/25 season but a heartbreaking pair of injuries that occurred back-to-back have meant he’s only played 100 more minutes of senior football since then.
With Guehi departing, The Eagles will likely want to bring in multiple reinforcements and Riad may well find his gametime more limited. He’s far from the only temporary departure too as Caleb Kporha joins up with Preston North End and Zach Marsh is off to Braintree Town. Meanwhile Dylan Reid and Luke Browne join Hamilton Academical and Galway United for nominal fees.
