Liverpool’s mid-week win over Real Madrid proved to be a false down as they were outplayed in all facets in a 3-0 defeat by Manchester City this morning.
Erling Haaland proved he was human by having an early penalty saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but normalcy was restored as Haaland found the back of the net a few minutes later.
Virgil van Dijk had a goal disallowed for offside and Liverpool were punished just before the half-time break when Nico Gonzalez made it 2-0 to City, before Jeremy Doku put the icing on the cake in the second half with a cracking goal from outside the box.

The results moves City up to second place on the Premier League ladder, just four points behind Arsenal after they dropped points against Sunderland, while Liverpool now sit uncomfortably in eighth spot.
In the other overnight EPL fixtures, Aston Villa jumped ahead of Bournemouth – and Liverpool – after thrashing the Cherries 4-0, while Nottingham Forest continued their recovery under Sean Dyche with a 3-1 win over Leeds in a game refereed by Australian Jarred Gillett.
Meanwhile two late goals from Igor Thiago helped Brentford beat Newcastle 3-1, in a game that turned on a penalty given away by Newcastle’s Dan Burn that also saw him earn a second yellow card.
The scores were 1-1 at that stage, but Thiago converted the subsequent penalty and then scored in the 90th minute to seal the victory and take Brentford to 12th spot, two ahead of Newcastle.
More to come…
