Paul Tagliabue, NFL commissioner from 1989 to 2006, passes away at 84

Former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who worked in professional footage for almost two decades, has died at the age of 84.

Tagliabue’s family announced that he passed away on Sunday due to heart failure complicated by Parkinson’s disease, according to NBC Sports.

He is survived by his wife Chandler and their children, Drew and Emily.

Before ascending to the helm of the NFL, Tagliabue worked for 20 years as an outside counsel with the law firm Covington & Burling.

In 1989, he was elected to succeed Pete Rozelle as commissioner of the NFL, a role he would hold until 2006.
