Liverpool are enduring a difficult spell in the Premier League, despite spending nearly £500 million during the summer transfer window.

Their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City has left Arne Slot’s side sitting in eighth place, having lost five of their last six league matches. Their only win in that run came against Aston Villa last weekend.

The club’s new signings have yet to gel, while the senior players who spearheaded Slot’s title-winning campaign last season have struggled to replicate that form.

This includes Mohamed Salah, who was Liverpool’s standout performer last term but has looked a shadow of his former self this season.

Salah signed a new contract earlier this year, extending his stay until 2027.

However, with his form dipping, there is growing speculation that this could be his final season at Anfield if the club decides to cash in next summer.

Saudi Arabian clubs have maintained a strong interest in the Egyptian superstar across several transfer windows, and their pursuit is expected to continue.

According to Football Insider, one of the player’s Liverpool are eyeing as Salah’s replacement at the club is Brighton star Yankuba Minteh.

The Reds are reportedly plotting a move for the 21-year-old as a long-term replacement for their Egyptian star.

Speaking to Football Insider’s podcast, transfer expert Pete O’Rourke said:

“Minteh is a very exciting player, one of the most exciting players in the Premier League on his day.

“Obviously there is the obvious links with Arne Slot, having worked with him in his final season in charge of Feyenoord as well.

“No surprise that maybe Liverpool are looking at him. Obviously, there’s the ongoing speculation of looking for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

“Minteh obviously has Premier League experience now as well and having known worked with Slot before, so it’s a deal that would make sense.

“He could tick a lot of boxes, but I don’t think there’s anything imminent on this one just yet.”

It has been reported thatLiverpool are prepared to pay over £100 million in order to get the deal done for Minteh.

Minteh has previously impressed under Arne Slot

Yankuba Minteh worked under Arne Slot during the 2023–24 season at Feyenoord, where he played a crucial role in their attacking system before securing his Premier League move.

During that campaign, Minteh made 37 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists. His pace, direct dribbling, and ability to press high up the pitch made him one of Slot’s most trusted young players.

That familiarity could now play a key role in Liverpool’s interest, as Slot seeks dynamic, high-energy wingers capable of fitting seamlessly into his pressing system.
