Donald Trump made an appearance at the Washington Commanders game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon, and Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown tried to pay a tribute to the U.S. president.

Trump was supposed to sit in the owner's suite alongside Josh Harris, who bought the team two years ago for a whopping $6 billion from the disgraced owner Dan Snyder. His visit came just days after Trump suggested that the new Commanders stadium should bear his name after demanding the team bring back the "Redskins" moniker.

In the first quarter of the game, the Lions took control and quickly built up a 14-3 lead with touchdowns from Jahmyr Gibbs and St. Brown. The latter celebrated his score by pointing towards the Washington suites.

St. Brown then performed Trump's signature dance, which is ironically set to the LGBTQ anthem YMCA, after catching a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jared Goff.

However, Trump wasn't present to appreciate the tribute, much to the disappointment of fans online.

One fan wrote: "We're just gonna act like that celebration didn't happen," while another commented: "This celebration doesn't age well," referring to the Detroit Tigers' downfall after their notorious dance during the MLB season.

Trump has other matters occupying his attention as well. He pushed for his name to be featured on Washington's upcoming stadium, White House secretary Karoline Leavitt informed ESPN: "That would be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible."

The franchise had switched its name from the "Washington Redskins" to the "Washington Football Team' in 2020 — ultimately transitioning to the "Commanders" in 2022.

The Commanders are scheduled to relocate to a new venue in the coming years, with their fresh facility now getting the green light at the former Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium location.

Before the 2025 season kicked off, Trump declared he would halt federal backing unless the team reverted to the Redskins moniker.

An insider revealed to ESPN that Trump might actually compel the Commanders to brand the stadium with the president's name, even though he won't hold office when it debuts.

The insider explained: "He has cards to play. He can make it very difficult, through government environmental approvals and other things, to make sure everyone who wants this stadium to be built will join to put his name on it. Trump has plenty of cards to play to get his way."

Trump had previously tried to purchase the Buffalo Bills several years before launching his presidential campaign.

If he hadn't been unsuccessful in his attempt to acquire the franchise, it's extremely doubtful he would have ever entered the political arena.
