Every week, the New York Giants find head-scratching ways to lose. On Sunday, they managed to blow another double-digit fourth-quarter lead as they went down in flames 24-20 to the Chicago Bears.
With the loss, New York drops to 2-8 and has lost four in a row. They haven’t won on the road since they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 last season. To make matters worse, Jaxson Dart left the game with a concussion, which leaves his status for next week in doubt.
The bottom line is the franchise is in disarray, and there’s no reason to have any optimism that things will change over the final seven games of the season. Here are more takeaways from the team’s latest choke.
No lead is safe with the New York Giants

The loss to the Bears marked the fourth time this season that the team blew a double-digit lead on the road. Everyone remembers their meltdown in Denver in Week 7 when they led 19-0 going into the fourth quarter and lost 33-32, but this loss was almost as excruciating as they were up 20-10 with 4:31 remaining in the game.
With this team, no lead is safe because when it matters most, no one has stepped up and made a game-saving play. The Giants should have sacked Caleb Williams several times throughout the course of the afternoon, but he escaped from defenders’ grasp and was not sacked once.
The defense also failed to bring down Williams on his game-winning 17-yard touchdown run with 1:47 remaining in the game. But the offense also deserves its share of blame for the collapse.
When Chicago cut the lead to 20-17, the offense had the ball with 3:56 remaining in the game. Had they been able to get a couple of first downs, they could have iced the game. Instead, they went three and out and lost eight yards in the process as Russell Wilson was sacked twice.
Jaxson Dart’s reckless style catches up to him

No matter what happens for the remainder of the season, one this certain, the team has found their quarterback of the future in Jaxson Dart. He scored two more rushing touchdowns on Sunday and now has 17 total touchdowns to just three interceptions.
You can understand Dart’s mindset that he needs to carry the offense with the loss of Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo, but he’s been taking some unnecessary punishment on designed runs over the past few weeks, and it finally caught up with him.
Dart was injured in the third quarter on a run where Bears defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson stripped the ball from him, which was recovered by Nahshon Wright with 5:14 remaining in the quarter.
The rookie quarterback tried to come back on the field on New York’s next drive, but the trainers saw that he was unsteady on his feet and took him back to the locker room.
Many have questioned the unnecessary hits the quarterback has been taking over the last few games on designed runs when games have been out of reach, and it’s possible the accumulation of hits led to the concussion.
Usually, when a player goes out with a concussion, they miss at least one week, which means the team will likely go back to Russell Wilson if Dart can’t go against the Packers next week. But more importantly, they need to monitor and find a way to protect their franchise quarterback to try and prevent any further injuries.
Someone has to be held accountable

Since the start of the 2023 season, the Giants’ record is 11-33, and it looks as if they might equal or surpass their record for losses in a season (14) if things keep up the way they’re going. Ownership has mentioned that they don’t foresee making a change in season with head coach Brian Daboll, but someone needs to be held accountable for the team’s losing ways.
You can’t keep everything intact as is and expect different results. The fanbase is beyond frustrated with investing time in the team, and the results remain the same. Can is needed to perhaps give the team a boost or perhaps to open the door of optimism for next season. If nothing changes between now and their Week 11 matchup against the Packers, there might be more Green Bay fans in attendance at MetLife Stadium than Giants fans.
