Seahawks make stunning roster move ahead of Week 10 nobody saw coming

The Seattle Seahawks have been as good as projected defensively when fully healthy. The team has been mostly great, even when not, and it's been a bit since Seattle had all of its starters. Safety Julian Love, for instance, hasn't played since Week 4 and had even missed a game before that.

Now, the Seahawks are without another key starter for at least a month, only the move is surprising. [Defensive tackle Jarran Reed](https://12thmanrising.com/seahawks-re-sign-jarran-reed-but-cost-surprisingly-high), a player who consistently gets pressure on opposing quarterbacks, was placed on injured reserve and will miss at least the next four games, starting with Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals.

What makes Reed's going to IR so stunning is that while he has been listed with injury designations during practices for a while, he hasn't missed any games. He also practiced fully before the Cardinals game, so there was no indication he was struggling with a bad injury.

Seattle Seahawks place Jarran Reed on injured reserve

-----------------------------------------------------

He appears to have two, one to his thumb and one to his wrist, though they could potentially be related. Even missing Week 10 would not have been expected, but four weeks can be crippling. The positive part is that head coach Mike Macdonald's scheme appears to work well enough for the next man up to do well.

That next man up, at times, may be Quinton Bohanna, as Seattle signed him off their practice squad. They did the same thing with wide receiver Cody White on Saturday, which may mean the injuries to Jake Bobo or Dareke Young are more serious than expected.

Bohanna is much more of a run-stopper than a defensive tackle who can get a consistent rush on opposing quarterbacks. The 6'4" and 360-pound nose guard has been in the league since 2021, and logged at least 222 snaps in his first two seasons, which he spent with the Dallas Cowboys.

He hasn't had a quarterback pressure since 2022 and hasn't had a tackle since 2023. That is partly because he has only been in on 16 defensive snaps the last two years, both of been with the Seattle Seahawks.

The main reps on the defensive line will likely [go to Leonard Williams](https://12thmanrising.com/jarran-reed-brilliant-nsfw-description-leonard-williams-week-12) and Byron Murphy II, of course, but also Bradnon Pili and Mike Morris. Morris is having his best season in the NFL so far.
