No stat padding here.
President Donald Trump, during an appearance on Fox’s Commanders-Lions broadcast on Sunday, said he could not remember scoring a single touchdown during his high school football career.
The president was asked about his pigskin glory days while joining announcer Kenny Albert and analyst Jonathan Vilma, a former Super Bowl champion with the New Orleans Saints, in the broadcast booth. Vilma told the president the Fox team had been “trying to look up” his stats when he played tight end at New York Military Academy in the late ’50s and early ’60s — a comment that drew a swift “oh no” from Trump.
Vilma then asked how many TDs Trump scored back in the day — and floated the possibility the commander-in-chief had about 6 or 7 of them.
“I’m not sure I had any,” Trump responded, which got a laugh from both announcers. “That’s a long time ago.”
He then got a few more chuckles when he quipped: “At least you realize that I never tell a lie, right?”
The Fox crew included a picture of Trump’s high school team — showing the president wearing a number 85 jersey — as he reminisced.
There may have been a good reason for the president’s lack of production, though. Trump, a moment earlier, said his unnamed quarterback “didn’t have a very strong arm” and could only throw it about 10 yards.
His eight-minute session in the broadcast booth came after a few other notable moments from Trump’s visit to Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
First, the president celebrated what he called the “greatest flyover ever” when he flew over the stadium before game. He was then loudly booed by the Commies crowd while swearing in new members of the U.S. military.
