Jordan Walsh only had six points on Sunday night as the Boston Celtics beat the Orlando Magic on the road, but it was nonetheless a game to remember for Walsh, and one that might end up being a turning point for his career in hindsight. With the shot clock winding down on the Celtics late in the fourth quarter, Walsh swished a clutch dagger three from the corner with just 14 seconds remaining to extend Boston’s lead the five, effectively winning the game for the C’s. It was the biggest shot of Walsh’s career thus far, and his teammates couldn’t have been happier for him as he made his way back to the bench after an Orlando timeout. Walsh finished with a well-rounded stat line in 26 minutes. In addition to the six points, he added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals, and he didn’t commit a turnover. Since entering the league, Walsh has worked so hard to improve his game, even as opportunities to play have often been meager. Well, he was rewarded big-time for that work by the basketball gods on Sunday night. You gotta love a guy like Walsh seeing some success. It was beginning to feel like he might fall out of the league if Walsh failed to earn a rotation spot this season, and while nothing is guaranteed in that regard after a few awesome performances, he’s trending in the right direction. It’s also important to remember that Walsh is still only 21 years old, despite this being his third season in the NBA. González was the best player during preseason and immediately grabbed Joe Mazzulla’s attention. The rookie is the most talented of the three players mentioned above and should be prioritized accordingly. If Walsh can keep giving the Celtics minutes like this, he might join Josh Minott on the list of surprising Celtics breakouts this season. Story continues below advertisement
