LANDOVER, Md. -- The Detroit Lions got back in the win column with an all-around drubbing of the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
There were role changes, ejections, personal fouls and a sitting U.S. President in attendance, and plenty was said after Detroit’s 44-22 win in D.C..
We’ll compile some of the most noteworthy quotes said by both teams from after Sunday’s game.
#### **Here are some notable quotes from the Lions and Commanders players and coaches:**
**Lions HC Dan Campbell, on his decision to take over calling plays:** “Yeah, it was just, let’s try something a little different, right? Look, I know what I want to do. I know how I want to do it. Now, that being said, this is a collaborative effort. I was taking input from John Morton that whole time and the other coaches ... Let’s just see if maybe a different play-caller can maybe get us a little rhythm. That’s all, and honestly, it’s nothing more than that.”
**Lions QB Jared Goff, on if the process in practice was different this week:** “No, exactly the same, honestly. Everything ran the same. I think you got to give Johnny (Morton) a ton of credit for handling it the way he handled it as a veteran coach, and a guy who has shown to have no ego over and over. Like to have that happen and for him to not miss a beat in the game planning and helping me and the passing game and the whole thing was really cool and impressive by him and it worked really well this week.”
**Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs, on his big day: On if today’s game was a response to last week’s performance:** “Yeah, last week we didn’t play even close to our standards. That’s probably the worst game we’ve played since I’ve been here. We don’t want to ever put that on tape again. So pretty much tried to get back on our horse type of game.”
**Lions WR Jameson Williams, on how much happier he is when he’s getting the ball more:** “I’m the same player every day. It don’t matter if I’m getting the ball or not getting the ball. I’m the same player when I wake up. I go into the meeting, practice or when I wake up Sunday for the game. I try to not let that affect me. I just go out there and make plays whenever my number is called. That’s just huge (and) the biggest thing for me.”
**Williams, on Campbell’s work calling the offense:** “Shout out to Dan, how he controlled the game. I think we went out there with a chip on our shoulder, with a chip to execute coming off the loss last week. Shout out to the players, man ... When you spread the ball around a lot like that, it’s easy to score a lot of points, especially with the playmakers we’ve got at different positions.”
**Lions C Graham Glasgow, on Campbell calling plays:** “I thought he called a good game today. I mean, I do think that there’s a two-sided coin. I do think that there’s always -- like I said this last week to (Dan) Skipper -- could we always play better? Yes. Could the play-calling make things easier? Yes. It’s the same thing, you know what I mean? Yeah. But today I thought we played well. I thought the play-calling was good, and we go from here.”
**Commanders DL Javon Kinlaw, on DL Daron Payne’s ejection and his subsequent penalty:** “Daron only retaliated because the refs literally saw the first punch (from St. Brown). I don’t blame him for the way he reacted. Tempers got to flying, it is what it is, it’s a physical game. (Expletive) happens. On my end I’ve just got to be smarter in certain situations and protect the team.”
**Kinlaw, on the St. Brown-Payne altercation:** “Yeah, for sure and they (officials) did too (see St. Brown hit Payne). That (expletive) was some (expletive), 100%.”
**Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, on Payne swinging at him:** “I think two plays before that, we got into a little scuffle, back and forth, whatever, this and that, and the other. And then we end up scoring, and I go up to him, I say a little something -- nothing crazy -- and then he decides to swing on me. I mean, it is what it is.”
**Commanders HC Dan Quinn, on the team’s number of personal foul penalties:** “Yeah, it wasn’t spilling over into the locker room. It was more like -- I get the frustration. But we’ve got to find a way to channel our frustration better or different than that ... So, the frustration is not an excuse, I guess that’s what I’m trying to say.”
**St. Brown, on his touchdown dance for President Trump:** “Nah, I mean, I heard Trump was gonna be at the game. I don’t know how many times the President’s gonna be at the game, so just decided to have some fun and do it again.”
**Glasgow on playing in front of President Trump:** “Pretty cool. I mean, I think I only saw him on the big screen one time, but other than that, I mean, he watched a good game of Lions football, I guess.”
