Bad day at the office for the Cherries in 4-0 defeat at Villa: Player ratings

Bournemouth were particularly poor in the first half, hardly laying a glove on their hosts and trailing 2-0 at the interval.

They improved in the second half and nearly forced their way back into the game, Alex Scott going close and Evanilson hitting the post.

But the best chance fell to Antoine Semenyo from the penalty spot, and after his spot kick was saved, Villa regained control and scored twice more to win 4-0.

The Daily Echo rates the Cherries players in defeat.

**Djordje Petrovic: 5**

The Serbian made some good saves, but his positioning perhaps wasn’t the best for the Villa opening goal and he was beaten four times.

**Adrien Truffert: 5**

A difficult day for the whole Cherries defence, Truffert was perhaps fortunate to not see red for a second bookable offence after a bad challenge in the centre circle, and he was swiftly replaced.

**Marcos Senesi: 5**

As with Truffert, a difficult game for the Argentine.

**Veljko Milosavljevic: 6**

The young Serbian’s toughest test so far in a Bournemouth shirt and he was ok – he made some crucial blocks and dealt with Watkins relatively well at times.

**Adam Smith: N/A**

Replaced very early on through injury after a nasty collision with Tyler Adams.

**Tyler Adams: 5**

The Cherries struggled for control through much of the game, particularly in the first half – and that is often what Adams brings. He wasn’t able to do so as the Bournemouth midfield came out second best.

**Alex Scott: 6**

As with Adams, the Cherries midfield struggled, although Scott had a couple of moments going forward and nearly got them a goal back at 2-0 in the second half, if not for a brilliant Martinez save.

**Marcus Tavernier: 5**

A poorly taken free kick at 0-0 was the best Cherries chance of the first half, and while Tavernier and the attacking unit improved in the second, they couldn’t find a breakthrough.

**Justin Kluivert: 5**

A largely ineffective return to the starting XI for Kluivert.

**Antoine Semenyo: 5**

A rare disappointing display from Semenyo, summed up by his saved penalty.

**Evanilson: 5**

Went close in Bournemouth’s good period at the start of the second half, hitting the post, but looked slightly off it at times in the first half, with a couple of poor touches that should have led to more threatening Cherries moves.

**Substitutes:**

**Alex Jimenez: 4**

A poor showing from the Spaniard – he looked all over the place when he came on for Smith early doors and then was replaced at halftime after picking up a booking.

**Lewis Cook: 6**

The Englishman brought a bit more control to the Bournemouth right.

**Ryan Christie: 5**

**Amine Adli: 5**

**Junior Kroupi: 5**

**David Brooks: 5**
