'Concerning' Cherries not at races for second game in a row: Scott

Bournemouth were well beaten by hosts Villa, falling to a 4-0 defeat at Villa Park after a poor first half saw them trail 2-0, before two late goals capped off a disappointing afternoon.

Match report:

There was something of a resurgence from the Cherries at the start of the second half, but they weren’t able to get back into the game and, after Semenyo saw his spot kick saved in the 65th minute, Villa regained control.

Scott said the Cherries were not at their best for the second week in succession, after their 3-1 defeat at Manchester City the weekend previous.

He told BBC Radio Solent: “Obviously it was a tough game.

“They're a top team, a team in Europe and we knew it was going to be difficult coming here today, but if we're at our best, I think we definitely can be at a better level than what we did today.

“And it's two weeks in a row where we've not been at the races and not been good enough, which is concerning.

“But [it’s the] international break, get things right and a big game at home at West Ham when we come back. So it's a chance there to put things right.”

After starting many of their games so well so far this season, the Cherries’ first half performance was particularly frustrating, with them unable to gain a foothold in the match.

The team was disrupted in the early stages after a nasty collision between Adam Smith and Tyler Adams caused a lengthy stoppage, but they weren’t able to really get going after that and before the interval.

Reflecting on the half, Scott said: “The first half was terrible from us. I think obviously what happened with our two boys definitely didn't help, and it was very stop-start.

“There was no rhythm to the game, a lot fouls and stoppages and stuff like that. So it was tough, but obviously, we weren't good enough.

“A few chances early on maybe, which, if you take them, it's a whole different game. And they took their chances, the free kick and the long range goal.

“So a disappointing first half and that put us a foot back and the second half we definitely came out stronger.

“I think, we were definitely controlling the game and the penalty, if that goes in, I feel like it's a different last half an hour in the game. It didn't go in and summed up our day for us, really.”
