Figuratively and literally, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be licking their wounds after an ugly 25-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday night. In addition to the defeat, Mike Tomlin provided a recap of the Steelers’ injuries suffered during the game.
“Slay was out. He’s in the concussion protocol,” Tomlin told reporters post-game via the team’s YouTube channel. “We’ll see where that leads us this week. The rest is bumps and bruises associated with play. Joey Porter Jr. went back into the game.”
Slay was injured in the first half after teammate SS Kyle Dugger collided with him at the end of a tackle. Slay was helped off the field and went to the blue medical tent, later returning to the locker room. Pittsburgh eventually ruled him out with a concussion. He’ll need to clear protocol to play in Week 11.
Slay has played in all nine games this season but has regularly missed time in-game due to injuries.
James Pierre replaced Slay and played well in his absence. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. temporarily left the game, forcing Jalen Ramsey to move from safety back to cornerback. But Porter returned to finish, allowing Ramsey to switch back to safety. With Ramsey at safety, Pittsburgh had only four other cornerbacks for the game, and has been thin at the position throughout the season.
The Steelers came into the game with a handful of injuries. Veteran WR Scotty Miller (finger), OG Isaac Seumalo (pec), ILB Cole Holcomb (illness), and SS Jabrill Peppers were all inactive due to their injuries. Each failed to practice throughout the week. They’ll try to get healthy for next Sunday’s tilt.
Mike Tomlin will speak to the media on Tuesday to provide the next Steelers’ injury update.
Pittsburgh will host the Cincinnati Bengals next week at 1 PM/EST.
