Head coach Sean Dyche has reminded Omari Hutchinson patience can pay off after an impressive Nottingham Forest cameo from the winger.
The Reds splashed out £37.5 million to snap up Hutchinson from Ipswich Town in the summer. But the club record signing has had to settle for a bit-part role in the Premier League so far this season and did not make the cut for Forest’s Europa League squad.
It has, therefore, been something of a frustrating start to his City Ground career for the 22-year-old. However, he showed what he is capable of when he came off the bench in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Leeds United.
Hutchinson set up Morgan Gibbs-White to score the hosts’ second and then won the penalty from which Elliot Anderson bagged their third. Dyche and assistant Steve Stone have spoken to the wide man about leaning on and learning from the Reds’ staff, and they have stressed his time will come.
“I told him he’s got good people here,” Dyche said after the weekend’s victory. “I said to him not to expect everything to click just like that.
“I told him to forget the price tag, it’s nothing for him to worry about. It’s just the modern industry.
“He is learning about playing in the Premier League. I told him he has got time and he has to keep doing what he has been doing - train well, work hard, look after yourself and enjoy it.
“He came on and I thought he was terrific. I’m very pleased for him - not just for us, I’m pleased for him, because it was important that.
“I don’t think he was left out of the Europa League squad, he wasn’t included. There is a difference between being left out and not being included. It was before my time.”

Hutchinson was part of a triple substitution made by Dyche just before the hour mark against the Whites. It was still 1-1 at that point and the changes helped to alter the course of the game.
Hutchinson made his mark, as did striker Taiwo Awoniyi and midfielder Ryan Yates. Forest now have a two-week gap due to the international break, but with Europa League games to contend with Dyche will continue to need his whole squad when the action resumes.
The Reds remain in the relegation zone but victory on Sunday closed the gap to those above them to just one point. As their first league win since the opening day of the campaign, it continued their encouraging start to life under Dyche.
“Different changes, different reasons,” the Forest boss said when reflecting on his substitutions. “Yatesy is a bit of an unsung hero with his professionalism and what he gives to the group and the club.
“T also because other people say he seems a bit lost with where he stands with the club. I have made it clear to him he has a part to play - as everyone does. It’s a clean slate. I think he activated. And credit to Omari.”
Dyche added: “The thing I have tried to impress on all the players is, regardless of all the challenges, the whys and wherefores, they are literally right in front of us. That’s it.
“No excuses from me. I never try to make excuses. Very rarely do I make out-and-out excuses.
“I said: ‘Lads, these are the fixtures. You are all the players, I’m the manager and this is the staff, we are the only ones who can change things, no one else.’
“The fixtures aren’t going away, they are what they are. Everyone wanted the Europa League, so therefore that’s it.
“I said that is the acceptance and that is how we have got to change it. There have been really good signs of this changing.”
