Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs is thrilled with his good start to life at the Stadium of Light. He’s been the first choice since joining them from NEC Nijmegen in August, and part of their success.
Two days ago, the stopper made his 11th league start for Sunderland. On Sunday, he returned to NEC Nijmegen to say goodbye to the club.

The 22-year-old has four clean sheets, conceding 10 goals from 11 matches. He is ‘more than satisfied’ with the run he’s had with the Black Cats.
_“It’s all happening so quickly. It’s really quite different from the Netherlands. Here, people live for it too, but over there, it’s all a bit bigger and a bit different. But right now, I’m living a truly good life,”_ he said.
_“Those games, that’s what you used to watch. And all the guys you’re playing against now. Five years ago, you only watched them on television. Now you get to measure yourself against them. You couldn’t ask for much more.”_
“Everything has been positive” at Sunderland
--------------------------------------------
ESPN NL pointed out the Dutchman had a reputation of staying calm even when put under pressure in the Eredivisie. He insists that hasn’t changed after moving to England.
He’s been named in some takes as one of the best signings of the summer.
_“That’s just great to hear. So far, everything has been very positive. Everyone is raving. That’s really fantastic,”_ Roefs explained.
_“Eventually, you get used to it and this will become normal again. But I’m very aware that this is something very special that I’m experiencing now, and no matter how well it’s going, you can enjoy it. Especially those matches at home. We beat Chelsea recently. That’s really enjoyable.”_
Roefs admits he thought it might be difficult at Sunderland given how other promoted clubs have done in recent years.
_“You go there, of course, knowing they’ve just been promoted and that it might be difficult. Ultimately, I think they’ve made some very good signings, and a lot of them,_” he added.
