Leeds United boss Daniel Farke loves a hostile football ground
Championship club Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to sign a defender with over 260 Leeds United appearances to his name.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen is hoping to be handed an opportunity to add a number of free agents to his squad - and one former Leeds United star is one of them.
The Owls were taken into administration last month as Dejphon Chansiri’s controversial ownership at Hillsborough was brought to an end amid ongoing fan protests and a number of breaches of regulations. The latter saw Wednesday placed under EFL recruitment restrictions and that has hampered Pedersen’s attempts to boost a squad that is in dire need of strengthening over the coming weeks.
With the financial picture at Hillsborough improving as supporters rally behind their club in impressive fashion following Chansiri’s departure, there are high hopes that some leeway could be given to allow Pedersen to add to his struggling squad and a decision could come at some point on Monday. That could allow Wednesday to make a move for former Leeds defender Liam Cooper, who has been without a club since leaving Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia earlier this year.
When asked for an update on if he will be allowed to sign free agents, the Owls boss told The Sheffield Star: “I am still hopeful, but we don't know anything yet. On Monday there will be a meeting and from here we will know what we can do. I am looking forward to Monday afternoon to see what has happened.
“He (Cooper) is one of them. We have more on the list, but if you don’t know what you can pay in salary, what you can budget for, it is difficult. But we have different lists with different categories, and we will see what happens. We hope for the best.”
What did Liam Cooper say about leaving Leeds United?

In a lengthy statement released on the club website after his departure last year, Cooper said: “To the best in the land. After 10 years, 7 as your captain, it's time to say goodbye. When I arrived at LUFC I had one ambition and that was to leave the shirt in a better position than when I arrived. I do believe I have done that, with the help and support of some incredible people.
“Firstly I have to thank Marcelo and his staff. My relationship with Marcelo is well documented, he made me a better player, a better leader and a better man. I would like to thank all of the managers I have worked with in the past decade but Marcelo's influence on me and the Club in general was beyond anything I can put into words.
“l also need to thank all of the coaches, physios and backroom staff past and present, across the first team and academy at Thorp Arch, for everything they have done for me. Many of these people have become more than colleagues over the years. These people help drive and maintain the standards behind the scenes and I will miss them all greatly, you all know who you are.”
