Harvey Barnes had hoped to be the man to put an end to Newcastle United’s terrible away form.
He gave Newcastle United the lead against Brentford in the first half, producing an outstanding finish to make it 1-0 against the run of play. Harvey Barnes now has four goals in all competitions this season, with only Nick Woltemade boasting more goals for the Magpies.
Unfortunately, Barnes’ goal meant nothing as Newcastle United lost 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium. It was another humiliation on the road for the Magpies, with Keith Andrews blown away by his side’s quality.
As for Eddie Howe, ‘quality’ is not a word you could use to describe his team. It was another woeful showing, with Newcastle recording just one shot on target.
That was the aforementioned goal from Barnes, who preserved his impressive record in this fixture.

Harvey Barnes cannot stop scoring away to Brentford
This is Barnes’ third season with the Newcastle United squad after arriving from Leicester City in 2023 for £39million.
During his time with the Magpies, he has played against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on three occasions. In all three of those appearances, he has found the net.
Barnes has a habit of scoring away at Brentford in the Premier League, having even done it in a Leicester City shirt.

During his career, the 27-year-old has played at the home of the Bees four times in the Premier League, scoring a goal in each of those four appearances.
Unfortunately, goals in his last two games away to Brentford have not won his side any points. Newcastle United have now lost back-to-back matches in West London, both of which were extremely painful.
Opportunity opens up for Harvey Barnes after Anthony Gordon injury
Newcastle United’s attack has not been good enough as of late, and that includes Barnes.
While he scored a great goal against Brentford on Sunday, it was actually his first in the Premier League all season.
He needs to find a way of scoring more regularly, especially given the players around him. Nick Woltemade is not prolific, Yoane Wissa is injured and the other wingers are inconsistent.
Throw in Anthony Gordon’s hip injury and there could suddenly be a chance for Barnes to step up. He took his opportunity on Sunday despite a dismal overall Toon performance, and will hope to build on his goal after the international break.
Eddie Howe needs Barnes more than ever. In terms of being a natural finisher, there is no one better than him at Newcastle United right now.
