Kristoffer Ajer was not in Brentford’s squad for their win over Newcastle United.
The defender had been playing regular for the Bees before that, playing every minute against West Ham, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Despite his absence against the Magpies, Ajer was included in Norway’s squad for the upcoming international break.
VG have spoken to Norway’s team doctor Ola Sand. Speaking about Ajer, he said: “ He’s coming to the [Norway] meeting tomorrow.”
When asked about the 27-year-old, the team doctor further stated: “I haven’t spoken to Kristoffer, but he is ready to fight.”
The outlet note that Brentford are yet to clarify the reason behind the defender’s absence on Sunday. There haven’t been any reports about a potential injury or sickness either.
This adds some mystery to Ajer’s situation. Norway play two key games in the next few days. This will prove key to their potential World Cup qualification.
With the squad meeting up today then that should provide some clarity on whether there’s a fitness issue. That’s causing the worry in Norway ahead of these crucial matches.
The Brentford player has been key for them, starting every game of World Cup qualifying.
