Newcastle United were beaten 3-1 away from home for the second successive Premier League match on Sunday.
Newcastle United lost 3-1 at Brentford on Sunday in a game which saw them reduced to 10 men and end the day just two points above the Premier League relegation zone.
11 games into the league season, The Magpies sit 14th in 12 points with just 11 goals scored. Harvey Barnes opened the scoring at the Gtech Community Stadium in the first half before Kevin Schade headed the hosts level after the break.
Newcastle defender Dan Burn was then shown a second yellow card after conceding a penalty for a foul on Dango Ouattara. Igor Thiago stepped up and converted the resulting penalty to but The Bees in front before grabbing his second of the day in stoppage time as the match ended 3-1.
Eddie Howe opens up on NUFC relegation reality
The fact that United are just two points above the relegation zone and are just another defeat, and results going against them, from dropping into the bottom three. With Manchester City up next for Newcastle after the international break, there is real cause for concern surrounding Howe’s side, who have qualified for the Champions League in two of the last three seasons.
Newcastle’s position in relation to the relegation zone is something that was put to Howe after the match.
And The Magpies boss was honest his councerns about the reality facing his side so far this season.

“I can't give you a satisfactory answer to that because it's not satisfactory,” Howe said. “ The fact that we haven't done our jobs and we feel we've let everybody down. I think when you do that, when you make mistakes, it's not intentional from anyone.
“All you can do is hold your hands up and go, right, okay, let's try and fix it. That's what we're going to try and do.
“It's the wrong end of the table for us, but it is what it is. That's the reality. We can't change it..
“All we can do is affect our next performances to try and change it. We knew potentially the start of the season would be slightly choppy for us as we entered into a transitional period with the team, but there's no excuses for us.
“We take full accountability for what we're delivering and only we can change it.”
Eddie Howe admits confidence is low at Newcastle United
Howe, as he did at times last season, called for unity to help navigate through a difficult period.
“Confidence will now be an issue for sure because I think they're honest players, really good people, they care,” Howe told The Gazette. “They want to do well, but the team's taken a few hits and I think that showed.
“So, we've got enough experience to respond in the right way. We've got enough experience to have been there before and then know how to deal with this moment. We know we're going to get criticised. We expect that. I don't see that being a problem for us as long as we stick together and we're really unified in this difficult period.”
