"Can definitely see it happening..." - Liverpool icon backed to seal shock exit in 2026

**Mohamed Salah has been backed to seal a shock exit from Liverpool at the end of this season, having only signed a contract extension earlier this year.**

The 33-year-old cut a flat figure during Sunday’s 3-0 defeat away to Manchester City, on a day that saw the Reds perform abysmally at the Etihad.

Salah is contracted with Liverpool until the summer of 2027, having signed a two-year extension, so he is expected to stay until at least then.

That said, former City financial advisor Stefan Borson told [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/stefan-borson-this-is-when-mohamed-salah-could-accept-very-big-saudi-offer/) that he could “definitely” see Salah sealing a move to Saudi Arabia next summer, but did play down a rumoured £150m fee.

_“I doubt that the numbers are £150m, but they may be very big. I mean, as a player, presumably the most famous player in the Middle East, you would think that he’s the prime signing for Saudi, so you can definitely see it happening. I just don’t see why they would need to pay him £150m. It seems to me the deal could be done at a lot lower value._

_“It seems to me that if he does have a poor season, Liverpool will be certainly willing to let him go for a much lower fee than historically to save the wages if nothing else, and he’d want to go, so you can make the deal happen.”_

**Should Liverpool cash in on Salah in 2026?**

----------------------------------------------

Salah’s performances this season have been alarming, with some feeling he has peaked as a player since the end of the title-winning 2024/25 campaign.

His pace is clearly not as unstoppable as it once was, and he struggles more in one-on-one situations, but he could simply be going through a dip, and it should never be forgotten the impact that Diogo Jota’s death may still be having on him.

For now, Liverpool shouldn’t consider selling Salah next summer, but there is no doubt that the time has come to find a natural successor to him, and potentially even starting ahead of him regularly next season.

That said, he has proven the doubters wrong so many times in the past, and the Reds will hopefully see the best of him again after the international break.
