Jordan Pickford praised for ‘out of this world’ talent but David Moyes does have one criticism

We all know Jordan Pickford is a top quality goalkeeper, but David Moyes has highlighted one thing he needs to improve on.

Once again this weekend, Everton were kept in the game by some superb work by Jordan Pickford to clinch a crucial three points against Fulham.

Pickford has been a consistent figure for the Toffees for the past eight years, and he’s still got so much more to give, you’d think.

He’s one of the key Everton players on international duty this month, and David Moyes has not wasted an opportunity to heap praise on his goalkeeper. But he did have one gripe.

David Moyes loves Jordan Pickford’s distribution

In an appearance on talkSPORT Live on Monday morning, the Everton manager commended Pickford for his contributions while highlighting one thing he can improve on.

He said: “His distribution was out of this world… incredibly good. That’s the difference at this level, getting him to kick it consistently. But he can have moments where he’s a bit wild and free with it.

“He made some great stops at the weekend though. We deserved the win but they had their moments. That’s how it is in the Premier League. We have to make sure when we are not the dominant force that we defend well. And Jordan is at the heart of that. His distribution and his saves are incredible.”

Admittedly, Pickford does have a tendency to sometimes be a little erratic. But, in many ways, it’s that confidence and bravado that makes him such a talented goalkeeper, too, so Moyes should be careful not to try and change him too much at this stage of his career.

How much longer will Jordan Pickford be Everton’s number one?

He’s racked up 330 games and counting for Everton, but at 31-years-old, there’s still plenty of time for Pickford to go far beyond that.

Goalkeepers can play until well into their late-30s, so there’s a good chance Pickford has another five or six seasons in him. That could mean another 200-300 appearances, which would absolutely cement him in the Everton history books as a true club legend, if he isn’t already deemed that anyway.

Indeed, it’s hard to imagine Everton even replacing Pickford. Luckily they have a while before they need to worry about that, but it will be a very tough moment for the Toffees when the time does come.
