Aston Villa are now firmly in contention to qualify for the Champions League again following their 4-0 win over Bournemouth.

Even though Aston Villa were expected to beat Bournemouth on Sunday, Unai Emery’s side produced a brilliant display to move into sixth place in the Premier League.

Emery‘s side ran rampant against the Cherries, with goals from Emi Buendia, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley, and Donyell Malen ensuring that Villa go into the international break full of confidence.

Aston Villa’s heavy win over Bournemouth has sparked confidence in supporters over their ambitions this season, and a supercomputer has predicted a rather ambiguous Premier League finish.

Aston Villa predicted to finish fifth in the Premier League

Wayne Rooney believes Villa will be challenging at the top, and it’s hard to argue with that given their fourth and sixth-placed finishes over the past two campaigns.

According to Opta’s supercomputer, Villa are expected to finish fifth, and that could be enough for a place in the Champions League next season.

Predicted finish: 5th

Predicted points: 60.76

Title chances: 1.3 per cent

It all depends on the coefficient race, yet Aston Villa will be confident that five Premier League teams will qualify.

MORE VILLA STORIES

All eight teams from England are performing relatively well in their respective European competitions, and they look to be the favourites to secure one of the two extra Champions League places.

One thing that Emery must improve is creativity, as only Burnley have recorded a lower expected goals total than Villa (9.4), while only five other teams have had fewer touches in the box (242).

But it’s clear that Villa dominate the ball in the majority of their matches, averaging the fifth-most possession in the league (54 per cent), and the sixth-most accurate passes per match (370.7).

Emery’s line-up was spot on against Bournemouth, and the squad has now reached a point of familiarity following the shaky start to the season.

Aston Villa Premier League table

Their recent run of form has propelled them up the Premier League table as the daunting Christmas period approaches.

Aston Villa’s remarkable four-game run shouldn’t go unnoticed

If you had told Villa fans in mid-October that they’d be in sixth place at this moment in time, they’d have bitten your hand off.

A run of games against Tottenham, Man City, Liverpool, and Bournemouth spelt trouble for Emery, with all four teams in the top five during the last international break.

But Villa navigated it excellently, securing nine points from those matches and conceding only two goals.

With two games against Arsenal and clashes against Chelsea and Manchester United all to come in December, it doesn’t get any easier for Aston Villa.

However, Emery’s side will be more confident than ever that they can keep pace with their rivals around them.
