Aaron Rodgers has admitted he could have played his last game in his native state of California after the Pittsburgh Steelers' defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 41-year-old, who was born in Chico, California, did not play well at SoFi Stadium on Sunday night as the Steelers fell 25-10 to the Chargers. Rodgers threw for 161 yards, completing just over 50 per cent of his passes after going 16-of-31 against the Chargers. He also threw a touchdown to receiver Roman Wilson, but was intercepted twice as Pittsburgh fell on the road to Los Angeles.

Following his tumultuous two-year spell in New York, Rodgers joined the Steelers this past offseason on a one-year deal. The four-time NFL MVP has been open that the 2025 season could very well be his last, with the Steelers quarterback admitting following the loss to the Chargers he may have played his final career game in his home state.

However, after the game, Rodgers corrected a reporter, pointing out that while the game at SoFi in Los Angeles may potentially be his final in "Southern California", it may not be his final in the state, given the Super Bowl is set to be played at Levi's Stadium, the home of the San Francisco 49ers, in Northern California.

Postgame, a reporter told Rodgers that this could be his last game in California, to which he replied: "Southern California. Yeah. Could be."

The reporter then followed up: "Southern California, yeah", prompting Rodgers to reply: "Was I thinking about it? No."

But for Pittsburgh, who now sit at 5-4, to make the Super Bowl, they will need to see major improvements on both sides of the ball. Sunday night's game for Rodgers represented one of the worst performances of his career, as his completion percentage, yards-per -pass, and QB rating were among the lowest they have ever been.

"I expect to play great every single week, and this was not my best performance. I got to play better in this for us to win," Rodgers told reporters after the loss.

"Whatever it takes. I got to make, you know, if it's better checks, if it's better throws, whatever it is, I got to play better. I will, you know, but we got to bounce back."

He continued: "I felt like our energy - it starts with me. "It wasn't as great on offense. I felt like we were just kind of struggling a little bit and couldn't get a play to get going. We always say we just get a first down.

"We usually score on that drive, and we had so many three-and-outs, and we hurt ourselves with a couple penalties and I, you know, I didn't play very good at all. So I got to play better.

"But we also got to realize, listen, we got four division games left to play. It's a long season and, you know, it's a good opponent and we didn't play very good tonight."
