Brentford star says Dan Burn's red card was harsh in interview following Bees win over…

**Dan Burn picked up a red card during Newcastle United's latest capital capitulation, with he defender picking up two yellow cards against Brentford.**

It was a strange one for the Blyth-born star as he did ultimately deserve his red card, but not for the incident for which he actually received his marching orders.

Dan Burn, who should have been taken off the pitch before he had the chance to get sent off, brought down Dango Ouattara in the area while on a yellow card, but the referee instead booked the Brentford forward for simulation. Replays and a VAR check revealed that Burn had made contact with the forward, but VAR determined it was minimal and not enough to warrant the way Ouattara went down.

Burn and Newcastle were saved, and that was the point when Eddie Howe should have hooked the 33-year-old, who had struggled all game. Alas, Howe didn't react, and shortly after, Ouattara and Burn clashed again in the area, and this time, Stuart Attwell did point to the spot and brandished a second yellow for Burn. Game well and truly over.

Dan Burn was done by Dango Ouattara twice

Even Bees defender Nathan Collins thought the decision to send off Dan Burn was harsh

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, replays on this incident showed that there was even less contact this time than the one that wasn't given, but Attwell and VAR stuck by their decision and Igor Thiago tucked away the penalty.

Speaking after the game, though, Brentford defender Nathan Collins [admitted to the BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/c8d73dq4dryt?post=asset:b8311b29-4bcd-4201-8e1e-73f578c96c92#post) that even he felt that the first incident was more of a penalty than the one that was given.

> “I thought the first one was more contact, and then the second I thought was a bit soft and for a second yellow was a bit soft.”

Lewis Hall will regain his place in the starting lineup against Manchester City

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The one positive from this is that now Lewis Hall has to return to the lineup when we take on Manchester City, with Burn serving a one-game suspension.

We have no issue with Burn returning to the team after that game at centre-back, replacing Sven Botman, but we have to keep Hall out there on the left.

Burn had a few decent games back out on the left, but we're starting to remember why we were so vehemently opposed to him playing that position in the first place. He absolutely is NOT a left-back.
