Earlier today, in a surprising development, former Barcelona superstar and club legend Lionel Messi posted stunning shots of himself at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner paid a secret visit to Barça’s redeveloped stadium last night and shared a message to his fans, concluding it with his desire to return to Camp Nou and the club in some capacity.
Barcelona officials taken by surprise
Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona have confirmed that nobody at the club had been informed about Messi’s visit to the stadium.
The Argentine’s post spread rapidly across social media and news outlets while club officials were left in disbelief.
The current Inter Miami player visited Barcelona on the night of Sunday, taking advantage of his stay in Spain as he will be joining the Argentina national team camp in Algorfa, Alicante, to prepare for a friendly against Angola on 14 November.
The former Barcelona player, now at Inter Miami, went to see how the renovation works were progressing at what had been “his” home for so many years and did not hesitate to capture the moment on his social media.
The news of Messi’s visit to the Spotify Camp Nou reached the club only on Monday morning after the images were published on his official account.
The way in which he managed to access the stadium remains unknown. Amid surprise and growing suspicion, Barcelona are investigating how their former captain was able to enter and who may have helped him do so.
Sources close to Messi have confirmed that the Argentine did not arrange this brief visit with anyone from the club, but did it on his own initiative and without informing anyone.
It is worth noting that Camp Nou had been closed to the public until Friday, 7 November, when the club reopened its doors for a trial session, hosting an open training session attended by 23,000 fans.
