Watford Under-21s’ hopes of making it three successive wins were ended by a strong Brentford side as they fell to a 4-0 defeat on Saturday.

Charlie Daniels’ youngsters kept the Bees at bay in the first half at Wheatsheaf Park but were undone by four strikes after the break.

The Hornets went close to taking the lead in the opening 45 minutes when Zavier Massiah-Edwards hit the bar with a curling shot, but the home side took command after Josh Stephenson headed them in front.

Myles Peart-Harris, who made 29 Championship appearances while on loan at Swansea City last season, then netted a brace, before Yunus Emre Konak completed the scoring.

The defeat leaves the Under-21s fourth in the southern section of the Premier League Professional Development League ahead of their next game at home to Bristol City on Monday.
