The Indianapolis Colts are good, and everyone knows it. The issue is that this is the NFL, and each week can turn out differently. After a sizzling start to 7-1, Indy lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9 and squeaked by a not-good Atlanta Falcons team in Week 10.
In other words, it is fine to hope that Indy can become a Super Bowl team in 2025, but there is a lot of season left, and the offense hasn't been as sharp as it was in the first eight games. Running back Jonathan Taylor is, mind you, but not quarterback Daniel Jones.
As a fan, however, it is obviously good to get carried away with how well Indy has done so far. Few national pundits expected Indianapolis to already have eight victories, equaling its number from 2024. Even fewer thought the team could contend for a championship.
Pat McAfee almost puts the jinx on the Indianapolis Colts
Former Colts punter (and current ESPN talking head) Pat McAfee might be putting the proverbial cart before the proverbial horse, however. After the Colts scored early in Week 10 to take a lead against the Falcons, he tweeted, "The Colts are gonna win the Super Bowl. GUTENTAG TO REALITY."
Too soon, Pat...far too soon. Plus, his last sentence there makes no sense. Guten tag is two words and means good day. In essence, he wrote that Indianapolis is going to win a championship this season and screw reality. He literally wrote, "Good day to reality." Silly.
The Colts are gonna win the Super Bowl.
GUTENTAG TO REALITY
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) November 9, 2025
Or maybe McAfee is a genius and was being insightfully ironic. Maybe he meant the Colts aren't going to the Super Bowl, and by tweeting they were, he was anti-jinxing things. But, in reality, he wasn't.
Fans should be excited, of course, especially when their team is successful, and McAfee is a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, a team that paid him a lot of money during his career. In return, he was a very good punter.
He is also a good pundit. He makes a good living speaking his opinions but rarely putting anyone down. Good for him.
Still, had the Colts scored, and then he tweeted what he did and Indianapolis lost, he would have had egg on his face. Or Spätzle. Either way, he could have been superstitiously blamed for the loss.
