Man City plot shock move for Arsenal defender

Manchester City sent out a statement to Premier League leaders Arsenal with an impressive 3-0 victory over reigning champions Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to victory against the Reds, with Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremi Doku all on the scoresheet at The Etihad.

The result moved the Citizens to within four points of the Gunners, while Arne Slot’s struggling champions now occupy eighth place in the Premier League table.

Arsenal, who have finished second in the Premier League in three consecutive seasons, were held to a 2-2 draw by high-flying Sunderland on Saturday, allowing City to cut their advantage.

Now, it appears that City are contemplating a shock move for an Arsenal defender who has fallen out of favour in North London.

As per Arsenal Insider, Manchester City are showing interest in Arsenal defender Ben White, who has made just six appearances for the Gunners so far this season.

The report claims that the Citizens are one of a number of clubs that are monitoring the Englishman and could make a move to try to sign him during next summer’s transfer window.

White, 28, joined the Gunners from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2021, having perviously impressed during a loan spell with Leeds United.

He has since made 166 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions, regularly being used both in his natural position as a central defender but also at right-back.

This season the ex-Brighton man has fallen out of favour, though, with Jurrien Timber establishing himself as first-choice at right-back in Arteta’s side, and the Spaniard’s preferred central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba also impressing.

This season White has started just one Premier League game – against Manchester United on the opening weekend of the new campaign.
