Marco Rose clear favourite to replace Daniel Farke – Leeds United board alerted

Marco Rose Leeds United

Marco Rose is now the favourite to become Leeds United’s next manager with Daniel Farke’s future in doubt following a run of poor results.

Leeds enter the international break just one point above the drop zone after a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday.

A few weeks ago, it was clear that Farke had to get results against Brighton and Nottingham Forest before the international break, with the Whites to face Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool next.

It’s a run of games Leeds are expected to struggle to get many, if any, points from as they stare down the barrel at a place in the relegation zone before the new year.

The embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton and this weekend’s dire showing at Nottingham Forest, who had one win all season, highlights the concern and anger that is building among the fanbase, with many believing a change of manager is needed now before it’s too late.

Sunday’s loss puts even more pressure on Farke, who once again defended himself and the result, saying that Leeds fans are ”emotional”. This has only stirred up Leeds fans more with a clear overall message coming from the majority of supporters – ‘it’s time for change’.

Marco Rose favourite for Leeds United job

A few days ago, Brendan Rodgers emerged as the favourite to be the next Leeds boss. But the bookies now have former Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmud and RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose as the favourite. The German’s was sacked by Leipzig in March of this year. Rose has been out of a job since, but is ready to return to management soon.

The 49-year old admitted in October that he would like for his next job to be outside Germany: “I definitely want to get back on the bench, but it doesn’t have to be today, tomorrow, or the day after… I believe the day will come.”

“You’ll certainly see me back on a training ground and in the stadium…It just has to be right, and maybe this time it’s going to be abroad.”

Marco Rose is a coach that likes his teams to have a lot of the ball, during his time in Germany, all his sides ranked near the top of the league in possession metrics.

His teams like to attack, and he often coached his sides to some of the best records in the Bundesliga. Rose had a few road bumps near the end of his time at Leipzig, but he is one of the better options on the market.

Will Rose be a good fit for Leeds?

When it comes to Leeds and Marco Rose, it would not be a good pairing. The German has never coached a side that is battling relegation in his career, so it would be unfamiliar territory. He also has no experience outside Germany and the Premier League is a whole different ball game. Leeds would be better looking closer to home or targeting a manager who knows English football. This is a crucial time for Leeds and it’s not the right moment for taking a chance on someone.

If it was before the season started, then it would make more sense why the club would go for a coach like him. But at this point of the season, survival is the only aim. And with his heavy possession-based attack, Leeds would not have the personnel to execute. Add to that the current poor state of the defence, and it would be a recipe for disaster.
