Alejandro Garnacho is outshining Manchester United's Mason Mount this season following the Argentinian international's switch to Chelsea. Garnacho made a £40million move to the Blues in August after a fallout with Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim post the Europa League final.
The 21-year-old felt he deserved more game time and voiced his frustrations publicly, reportedly leading to Amorim retorting: "You better hope you have a good agent this summer."
The winger's departure from the club was far from amicable, having been at the club since joining the academy in 2020. Now donning the Chelsea blue, Garnacho is starting to hit his stride after an initial slow start in west London.
Mount, who moved in the opposite direction from Chelsea to United, hasn't quite found his feet at Old Trafford as he did at Stamford Bridge.
In fairness, Mount has had his share of injury woes. Five separate injuries have seen the 26-year-old miss over 50 games for United, but when he has featured this season, he has managed just one goal and one assist in nine appearances.
In contrast, Garnacho has netted two goals and provided two assists in his 10 matches for Chelsea. Both assists came in Chelsea's 3-0 triumph over Wolves on Saturday.
United have a regrettable recent history of selling players who then go on to shine at other clubs. One of the most notable examples is Scott McTominay.
Since his £25m switch to Napoli last season, the Scotland international has emerged as one of the Italian side's standout performers. He claimed the Serie A MVP award for the 2024/25 campaign and secured 18th place in the 2025 Ballon d'Or rankings following Napoli's triumph in securing their fourth Italian league crown.
Garnacho's journey at Chelsea hasn't yet reached McTominay's heights. Nevertheless, what unfolds could serve as a harsh wake-up call for Amorim regarding Mount's value to the squad.

United's No. 7 has demonstrated tactical flexibility under Amorim. He has occasionally operated as a left-sided number 10, left-winger, and even as a false nine.
The capacity to switch positions without significant disruption is something the United boss prizes highly given his distinctive formations. Towards the close of 2024, Amorim openly expressed his appreciation for Mount when he said: "I have to tell you I love that kid.
"The first thing is he is working really hard. And then you have to understand the human also. You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me."
Mount remains young and has ample time to rediscover any form lost this season. His deal with United runs until 2028, and with Amorim already showing his affection for the midfielder, the 26-year-old appears destined for further chances.
But Amorim will surely want to witness some progress in the near future.
