Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann says he is not worried about Florian Wirtz’s performances at Liverpool, saying he’s made “steps in the right direction” as he directed a blunt truth to Liverpool.
The 22-year-old has failed to record a goal or an assist in any of his 11 outings in the Premier League since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in June, despite creating a plethora of chances.
And Gary Neville said Wirtz looked like a “little boy” during Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Man City at the Etihad.
But Nagelsmann, who has included Wirtz in Germany’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Slovakia, has revealed he is in regular contact with the midfielder and is not worried about his form since moving to Anfield.
“I always speak to Flo, regardless of his situation,” Nagelsmann told reporters on Monday, via @iMiaSanMia.

“It’s a very complex and difficult situation when you look at his club. Last year they won the Premier League and played very attractive football.
“This year a few players left them, and they invested a lot of money on new players.
“So the entire mix is very complex – each of the five attacking players wants to be the ‘star player’, this situation doesn’t make it easy for Flo – because the entire club is not as stable as they were last season.
“I watched the game against City and they were the worse team over 90 minutes.
“It’s not easy for Flo to put his mark in such a situation. We can see that a lot of players struggle when they move to another club where there have been many changes.
“We can’t expect him to perform at the same level for three years straight.
“Instead, we all need to support him a little bit so that he can clear his head here, and then maybe Liverpool could also help him out by scoring some of the chances he creates.
“That would be one idea, because he does not create few chances, it’s just that they somehow don’t like to shoot the ball in, that’s also part of the truth.”
Fixture list can be kind to Wirtz

After starting Liverpool’s first four games of the season, Wirtz has found himself in and out of the starting XI in recent weeks, starting just three of the last seven Premier League games.
However, the Germany international showed signs of improvement in the 1-0 win against Real Madrid last week, where he started on the left.
Wirtz can expect to feature more frequently after the international break, with Liverpool playing nine games across all competitions before the end of December.
In addition to the Reds facing Premier League strugglers West Ham, Leeds United and Wolves, five of those nine fixtures are at Anfield.
