Manchester United are scouring the transfer market for central midfielders and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is the latest name on Ineos’ radar.
It is no secret that Manchester United want to sign a midfielder in 2026 after failing to address the position in the summer.
United were heavily linked to Carlos Baleba over the summer but decided against a £100 million move. This season, Baleba is in poor form, so Ineos are already looking at alternatives.

Man United showing interest in Alex Scott
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively revealed to United in Focus that Scott is a player who has impressed the recruitment staff at Carrington.
The 22-year-old midfielder is enjoying a brilliant run of form with Bournemouth, which has earned him a call-up to the England national squad from Thomas Tuchel.

His progress this season has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, including United. Scott joined Bournemouth in 2023 from Bristol City in a £25 million deal.
Bailey told United in Focus: “Alex Scott is emerging as a real name now and United are well aware of his talents. I am told they watched him and liked him during his Bristol City days, but now he is maturing into a dominant player.
“We know all the big names linked to United heading into the New Year and ahead of next summer, but keep an eye on Scott – he is a possibility for a number of clubs and that includes United.”
With Casemiro expected to leave and Kobbie Mainoo concerned about game time, Bailey also made it clear that there is more space for midfield reinforcements in 2026 than initially thought.
Why Alex Scott is ideal for Ruben Amorim’s Man United
Amorim wants an “athletic” midfielder in 2026 to strengthen his midfield options, and Scott fits the bill.
Under Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth, Scott plays as a defensive midfielder in a double pivot – the same position he would be asked to play under Amorim at Old Trafford.
Scott has appeared in all of Bournemouth’s 11 Premier League matches so far this season, including 10 starts.

According to WhoScored, Scott’s strengths are his tackling and long shots. He ranks highly for tackles per 90 minutes and short pass completion.
United have been overly reliant on Casemiro this season, and Ineos are tasked with finding a successor to the Brazilian. Scott is one of several transfer interests heading into 2026, and there are promising signs he could be a future superstar.
