Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is known for his arm strength, poise under pressure, and back-to-back Super Bowl victories. But according to Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt,Mahomes’ greatest growthhasn’t come on the field —it’s been in his faith.
Clark Hunt Praises PatrickMahomes’ Faith
During an appearance on the“Intersection”podcast, Hunt praisedMahomes’ evolving relationship with Christianity, describing it as one of the most inspiring parts of the starquarterback’s journey.
“One of the guys that I have enjoyed seeing grow so much in his faith has been Patrick Mahomes,”Hunt said. “Hewas raised in a Christian family, and I have seen him be more demonstrative of his faith here across the years. Anytime that I have an opportunity to have that conversation,it’s always special.”
Patrick Mahomes on His Faith: ‘Jesus Is Everything to Me’
Mahomes has long been open about his faith in interviews, especially during high-stakes moments like the Super Bowl. Speaking to reporters during media week in New Orleans, he reaffirmed his belief in Jesus Christ.
“He’s my Lord and Savior,”Mahomes said. “It’s someone that I look up to every single day to decide what I want to do with my life and how I want to live my life. And so Jesus is everything to me at the end of the day.”
The Chiefs QB1 also shared that one Bible passage, serves as his spiritual anchor. “It’s about a boy named Eutychus and his faith, listening to a sermon, and falling and dying and coming back to life,”Mahomes explained. “It spoke to me in that momentof how I need to live my life and how I need tobe fully invested in God.”
Even through injuries and intense playoff runs, Mahomes says faith gives him peace. After suffering an ankle injury before Super Bowl LVII, he credited God with helping him push through the pain.
“I want to thank God, man. He healed my body this week,”MahomestoldCBS’s Tracy Wolfson. “To battle through that, He gave me the strength to be out here.”
Putting God First: ‘It Relieves the Pressure’
Beyond the stats — 2,349 passing yards, 17touchdowns, and just five interceptions so far this season — Mahomes says keeping God first has shaped his mindset.
“I try to give all glory to God,”he said. “Him giving me this platform to showcase my skills and play the game that I love —that’s always at the top of the list.”
He added that faith helps him handle the pressure that comes with being one of theNFL’s biggest stars.
“I feel likeI’ve grown in my faith these last few yearsand I thinkthat’s given me more sense of who I am and why I play the game,”Mahomes told ESPN. “It just kind of relieves the pressure of playing a football game because I know thatI’m on that field to glorify Him before everything.”
Chiefs team chaplain Marcellus Casey confirmed that Mahomes is a regular at theteam’s chapel services and noted how deeply his faith has shaped his leadership. “Patrick is the same person in private as he is in public — humble, grounded, and grateful,”Casey said.
