With how the summer transfer window went on paper, not many Liverpool fans would have cause for complaint.
However, just a few months into the season, the blow of losing out on Marc Guehi has become painfully apparent.
It’s fair to say that Ibrahima Konate was simply not at the races for the Reds at the Etihad on Sunday.
He was involved in a mix-up with Conor Bradley that eventually led to a penalty being given away, and he also lost his aerial duel for Erling Haaland’s opening goal.
Of course, almost as soon as the game was done came the “Ibrahima Konate is thinking of Real Madrid” brigade.
But minds also wandered to Marc Guehi, and whether the result or indeed the season could have gone differently if Arne Slot had the luxury of picking between the Frenchman and the Palace skipper.
And another potential centre-back signing that DaveOCKOP exclusively revealed Liverpool interest in, Nico Schlotterbeck, is also not having the best of times.
However, his frustration isn’t on his individual performances but rather Borussia Dortmund’s recent results and playstyle under new boss Niko Kovac.
Dortmund suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester City, losing 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium last week before being held to a 1-1 draw vs Hamburg in the Bundesliga over the weekend.
And Schlotterbeck is not happy with how things are going, claiming that his Dortmund side needs to play “more football “and lamenting Kovac’s setup as too “passive”:
“I think we had everything under control until the 1-0. We barely allowed anything. After the 1-0, we lost a bit of control. We need to play a bit more football. In the end, we just didn’t manage that,” Nico Schlotterbeck said post-Hamburg to Sky Germany.
“We had a tough game earlier in the week [against Manchester City]. We hardly allowed anything. In the end, we were too sloppy. We gave control to HSV. Then what often happens when you get too passive happened. After the 1-0, that should have been our liberation.”
It has already been reported that Schlotterbeck is hesitant to commit to new terms at Dortmund, with his contract expiring in 2027.
For Liverpool, it can only be a boost to their chances of signing him next summer.
