Aston Villa player receives late international call up – Rewarded for display

Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendía has received a late call-up from Lionel Scaloni. He will be involved in Argentina’s friendly against Angola, as per journalist Uriel Lugt.

The Argentine Football Association confirmed that Julián Álvarez, Giuliano Simeone, Nahuel Molina and Enzo Fernández have all withdrawn from the initial squad. Scaloni responded by adding Buendía, who returns to the national team setup for the first time since 2022.

The 27-year-old playmaker earned his place after a standout run of performances for Aston Villa. Over the weekend, he was named Man of the Match in the 4–0 win against Bournemouth. He scored a goal and played a central role in Unai Emery’s attacking system.

Buendía missed the entire 2023–24 campaign due to a knee injury but has since regained top form and consistency. His creativity, energy and versatility have strengthened Aston Villa’s midfield, helping the club remain in the Premier League’s upper positions.

He’ll be hoping to make a mark and try and impress ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Club teammate Emiliano Martinez won’t be there to great him, after being rested for this international break.
